16-year-old male facing weapons charges

RCMP have charged a 16-year-old male from Opaskwayak Cree Nation with a number of weapons-related offences.

Police say that on December 31, 2020, officers had responded to an unrelated disturbance on Miskisew Street in the community when they heard a gunshot at a nearby residence.

Moments later officers saw two males exit the home and begin arguing. As the officers approached the male they noticed one of them was holding what appears to be two separate firearms.

The male was ordered to drop the weapons and told he was under arrest. He ran back into the residence. A short time later he exit a room in the home without the guns and was arrested. Police seized the weapons.
