16 test positive for COVID-19 in St. Boniface Hospital outbreak

St. Boniface Hospital continues to deal with outbreaks of COVID-19 in two units within the facility. Officials announced on Friday, October 16 that two patients had rested positive on the E6 medicine unit.

As of Wednesday, October 21, that number has grown to 11 patients and five staff members and now includes a second area within the hospital the E5 medicine unit.

Hospital officials say that all potential contacts between October 5 and October 20 are being traced so they can self-isolate and get tested if symptoms develop.

The facility has stopped admissions to both E5 and E6 units and has restricted visits to the units. Families are encouraged to have virtual visits with patients within those units.

Although the two units are off-limits the rest of the hospital remains open. Clinics and procedures are continuing as usual.
