16 new COVID-19 cases added to Manitoba’s increasing case total

Manitoba Public Health announced 16 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, August 12, 2020, as of 9:30 am. The total number of lab-confirmed and probable cases stands at 578.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 1.06 per cent.

Four of the new cases are in the Prairie Mountain Health region, one new case in the Southern Health region, one new case in the Interlake-Eastern Health region and 10 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

The cases identified today include:

Prairie Mountain Health Region

  • one female between 10 and 19
  • one female in her 20s
  • two males in their 40s

Interlake-Eastern Health Region

  • one female in her 30s

Southern Health Region

  • one female in her 60s

Winnipeg Health Region

  • Four males and two females in their 20s
  • One male and one female in their 30s
  • Two females in their 40s

There are currently 202 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 368 people listed as recovered.

Five people are being treated in hospital of which three are in intensive care.

The total number of deaths in Manitoba related to COVID-19 remains at eight.

1,554 laboratory tests were completed on Tuesday. According to Manitoba Public Health the total number of completed tests since early February to 105,661.

Public health officials are advising that potential exposure to COVID-19 may have occurred on flights on Aug. 3 and Aug. 4 including:
•    Air India Flight AI 121 from New Delhi, India, to Frankfurt, Germany, on Aug. 3 and affected rows include rows 30 to 36;
•    Air Canada Flight 873 from Frankfurt, Germany, to Toronto Pearson International Airport on Aug. 4 and affected rows include rows 32 to 38; and
•    Air Canada Flight 271 from Toronto Pearson International Airport to the James A. Richardson International Airport in Winnipeg on Aug. 4 and affected rows include rows 19 to 25.

Individuals in the affected seats on these flights are advised to self-isolate for 14 days following the flight and monitor for symptoms. Passengers on these flights, but not in the affected seats, should self-monitor for symptoms and self-isolate if they develop.
