157 cases identified as new travel rules begin

157 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the province today. Three more people died from the virus.

Those who died from COVID-19 are identified as:

  • a female in her 30s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a female in her 50s from the Winnipeg health region; and
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the outbreak at Concordia Place Personal Care Home.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 7.5 per cent provincially and 4.9 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 29,280.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • nine cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 81 cases in the Northern health region;
  • 24 cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • 14 cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 29 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 3,490 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 24,967 people listed as recovered.

272 people are being treated in the hospital of which 122 are considered infectious. 39 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 29 of them still considered infectious.

823 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province. Due to a data correction by public health, one death that had been reported earlier has been removed.

2,176 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 473,801 tests completed.

An outbreak has been declared at Wapanohk Community School in Thompson.

As of today inter-provincial travel restrictions have been put in place. Anyone coming or returning to Manitoba must self-isolate for 14 days.

“Follow the spirit of the orders, don’t look to skirt the orders,” said Dr Brent Roussin, chief provincial public health officer.
