Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service respond to a fire in a Main Street hotel on Sunday morning, May 22, 2022.
Crews were called to the 700 block of Main Street around 9:40 am and when they arrived saw smoke coming from the structure.
An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control within 15 minutes. Officials say that the building’s sprinkler system had gone off and was able to help keep the fire from spreading.
Firefighters helped some people get out of the building while others were able to self-evacuate.
No injuries were reported.
Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services Unit was deployed to help 15 people find temporary accommodations. Two cats were rescued by firefighters and handed over to Animal Services.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
