139 new cases of COVID-19 and 40 variants of concern identified

139 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the province today. Two cases have been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 137. Three deaths were reported due to the virus:

  • a male in his 70s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a female in her 70s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the outbreak at Holy Family Home; and
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 4.8 per cent provincially and 4.6 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 34,793.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • zero cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 55 cases in the Northern health region;
  • 18 cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • six cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 60 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 1,066 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 32,781 people listed as recovered.

141 people are being treated in the hospital of which 58 are considered infectious. 33 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 13 of them still considered infectious.

There are 40 additional variants of concern cases identified today, 37 are B1.1.7 with 32 from the Winnipeg Health Region, two from the Prairie Mountain Health Region, two from the Interlake-Eastern Health Region and one from Southern Health Region. Three new screened or sequenced uncategorized cases have been detected. All three are from the Winnipeg Health Region.

The total number of confirmed variant of concern cases of B.1.1.7 is 298 and B.1.351 is 20. 18 variants of concern cases have not been categorized bringing the total number of confirmed variant of concern cases to 339.

946 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

2,027 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 596,872 tests completed.

An outbreak has been declared at Boissevain Health Centre and Evergreen Place Personal Care Home in Boissevain
