135 new cases of COVID-19 and two additional deaths identified

135 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the province today. Three cases have been removed due to data correction. This brings the net-new number of cases today to 132. Two deaths were reported due to the virus:

  • a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 variant of concern; and
  • a male in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the outbreak at Holy Family Home.

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 6.0 per cent provincially and 5.7 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 35,459.

Today’s cases are from the following health regions:

  • two cases in the Interlake-Eastern health region;
  • 34 cases in the Northern health region;
  • five cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;
  • five cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and
  • 89 cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 1,438 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 33,070 people listed as recovered.

138 people are being treated in the hospital of which 62 are considered infectious. 33 people with the virus are in Intensive Care Units with 19 of them still considered infectious.

951 Manitobans have died since COVID-19 first arrived in the province.

1,955 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 608,345 tests completed.

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at the Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon.
