Winnipeg police have arrested a 13-year-old boy and charged him with a number of robbery and firearm offences after he allegedly robbed two people in two separate incidents.
According to police, officers were called to St. Mary’s Road and Reil Avenue around 5:00 pm on March 10, 2024, after a 19-year-old female was confronted by the suspect who demanded her cell phone. During the encounter, the suspect pulled out a machete and swung it at the victim. The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition and treated for life-altering injuries.
A second robbery occurred on March 12 around 10:15 p.m. near Main Street and Rupertsland Avenue and was linked to the suspect. In that incident a 12-year-old boy was robbed at gunpoint. The suspect stole the victim’s cell phone the fled on foot. Police determined that the gun was air-powered firearm. The victim was not injured.
On March 13, the Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU) located the suspect near Edmonton Street and Portage Avenue. The suspect was taken into custody. A search of his person uncovered a machete which was seized as evidence.
The teen has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Robbery
- Robbery with Firearm
- Aggravated Assault
- Fail to Comply with Sentence Order x 3
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Carry Concealed Weapon
The minor was detained in youth custody.
