On Tuesday, March 7. 2023, RCMP in Thompson arrested and charged a 12-year-old girl in connection to a stolen vehicle incident.
According to police, a vehicle was left running at a home in Thompson when it was taken. As the driver fled the area the vehicle hit a snowbank. The driver was able to dislodge the vehicle and as it fled once again it hit a vehicle that had stopped to help. A passenger in the vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Police received reports that the vehicle had been driving erratically but it got stuck on the shoulder of Highway 6. The driver was once again able to get free and continued on in an erratic manner toward Thompson.
Police tried to initiate a traffic stop but the vehicle refused to pull over. As the vehicle continued it nearly collided with other vehicles and a decision to stop pursuing the vehicle was made due to the risks to the public.
Police arrested two females after they located the vehicle stuck in the snow on Station Road.
An 11-year-old girl could not be charged in the incident due to her age. A 12-year-old girl has been charged for her alleged involvement with
Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle causing Bodily Harm, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Police, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and Theft of Motor Vehicle.
