12 more Winnipeg residents die from COVID-19

Manitoba Public Health announced there were 243 new cases of the virus today. The total number of lab-confirmed cases stands at 13,544.

Officials report that 12 more Manitobans died due to COVID-19 today:

  • a male in his 40s, a male and female in their 70s, a male and female in their 80s and a male and female in their 90s from the Winnipeg health region;
  • a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the Victoria General Hospital outbreak;
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the Parkview Place outbreak;
  • a female in her 80s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the Maples Long Term Care Home outbreak;
  • a male in his 90s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the Beacon Hill Lodge outbreak;
  • a female in her 90s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the St. Norbert Personal Care Home outbreak.

The five-day test positivity rate in Manitoba is 13.7 per cent. In Winnipeg, the test positivity rate is 13.4.

Of the cases reported today there are 14 cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health Region, 29 cases in the Northern Health Region, 16 cases in the Prairie Mountain Health Region, 49 cases in the Southern Health Region and 135 cases in the Winnipeg Health Region.

There are 288 people being treated in hospital with 52 in intensive care.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 229.

There are currently 8,122 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, of those 5,816 are in Winnipeg. There are 5,193 people are listed as recovered.

2,112 laboratory tests were completed yesterday. According to Manitoba Public Health, the total number of completed tests since early February is 330,265.

The chief provincial public health officer urges Manitobans to only leave their homes for essential purposes. When leaving the house to obtain essentials, be sure to physically distance, wear a mask in indoor public places and avoid crowded spaces. Do not leave the home if you are sick, or when any member of your family is sick. Further, do not socialize with anyone from outside your household.

Officials advise that only people showing symptoms of COVID-19 should go for testing. If you do have symptoms you should seek testing as soon as possible once symptoms appear.
