101 new cases of COVID-19 and three deaths reported

101 new cases of COVID-19 were identified in the province over the weekend and today which included 27 cases on Saturday, July 31, 34 cases on Sunday, August 1, 18 cases on August 2 and 22 cases on August 3. Three news deaths were reported over the weekend due to the virus:

  •  male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to the B.1.1.7 (alpha) variant of concern;
  • a male in his 60s from the Winnipeg health region, linked to an unspecified variant of concern; and 
  • a male in his 80s from Southern Health–Santé Sud health region, linked to an unspecified variant of concern. 

The five-day test positivity rate is currently 2.6 per cent provincially and 1.9 per cent in Winnipeg.

The total number of lab-confirmed cases in Manitoba is 57,691

The 101 cases reported today are from:

• 24 new cases in the Interlake–Eastern health region;
• seven new cases in the Northern health region;
• three new cases in the Prairie Mountain Health region;   
• 18 new cases in the Southern Health–Santé Sud health region; and   
• 49 new cases in the Winnipeg health region.

There are currently 528 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba with 55,982 people listed as recovered.

95 Manitobans are in hospital with COVID-19 of which 19 are in intensive care.

1,345 tests were completed yesterday. Since the virus first arrived in February 2020, there have been 878,040 tests completed.

The total number of deaths related to COVID-19 in Manitoba is 1,181.
