Manitoba announced on Wednesday that the province will not be receiving any of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine next week and expects to see a reduction in shipments of more than 29,000 doses over the next month.
Based on current inventory projections the province will run out of the Pfizer vaccine by February 7 if additional shipments do not arrive.
Originally the province had expected to administer about 2,500 per day in February but say with the delays that number will be closer to 1,500.
Vaccine delivery in Canada is controlled by the federal government. Manitoba is notified of how much vaccine they will receive each week.
The province said that they will always have enough vaccines for scheduled appointments.
Pfizer announced last week that they are pausing some production at its Belguim on a temporary basis and expects to increase capacity in the near future.
