The Manitoba government is providing $1.1 million to expand the eating disorder program at Health Sciences Centre (HSC) in Winnipeg and also create a safe nutrition clinic for people living with eating disorders.

The need for additional eating disorder services in the province was contained in the VIRGO report. The province says that the funding will be used to:
- add two additional beds for eating disorders at HSC bringing the total to five.
- create a safe nutrition clinic for inpatients and those in the community
- increase outpatients patient capacity
- improve programming for co-existing eating disorder and substance use disorder patients
“Eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa, bulimia and binge-eating are the number one cause of death among all mental illnesses,” said Health, Seniors and Active Living Minister Cameron Friesen. “This investment will decrease wait times for treatment and keep individuals close to their support networks in Manitoba, while receiving care.”
