On Wednesday True North Sports and Entertainment announced that effective September 1, 2017 you cannot re-enter the MTS Centre during events if you step out.
Although they may consider exceptions for emergencies, childcare or medical issues on a case by case basis.
Why would they do that you ask?
Well according to True North there are a number of reasons such as “The MTS Centre is one of the last arenas in the NHL to introduce a no re-entry policy” (everyone else is doing it) or “The no re-entry policy will allow us to have greater control of the air temperature year-round as it will eliminate frequent entering and re-entering the building, which currently lets in extremely cold air in the winter months and hot humid air in the summer months.” (really? how delicate is this building?)
True North also claimed that the policy will help with security and will decrease the amount of heavy pedestrian traffic from people crossing the streets near the building during games and events.
It is estimated that about 10% of people who attend events at MTS Centre leave the building during the event.
A public awareness campaign will be launched during the summer to prepare event and game goers for the new rules that they must follow.
