Suspect rams police vehicle during pursuit in Brandon

A 22-year-old Brandon man is facing a number of charges after he allegedly stole a vehicle and led police on a chase before slamming into a police cruiser.

It happened around 1:20 am this morning, February 1, 2018, in the Wheat City. Brandon Police say that the suspect stole a vehicle that was left running to warm up in the 700 block of 7th Street.

Police found the vehicle just before 2:00 am and attempted to pull it over when the driver of the vehicle sped off. A pursuit began and police say they chased the vehicle for several blocks but that it ended when the suspect slammed into a police vehicle in the 400 block of 13th Street.

The driver then tried to take off on foot but was caught as he attempted to scale a fence nearby.

The male was arrested and taken to police HQ where breath samples showed he was impaired.

The suspect is facing charges of Impaired Driving, Drive Over 80 mg%, Theft of Motor Vehicle, Flight From Police, Resist Arrest and Assault Police Officer.

The male was also found to have three outstanding Warrants of Arrest for Mischief to Property, Assault and Breach of Probation.

Police also say that during the suspects attempt to run from police he received a minor injury. He was taken to hospital, treated and released back into custody.
