Effective April 1, 2018 the City of Winnipeg has increased street parking rates by $1.50 per hour.
The good news is that it will take crews six to eight weeks to convert the pay stations over to the new rate so you get to keep some of your hard earned cash for now.
So how do you know if you have to pay the new rate? The city says that as the pay stations are converted the rate card on the machine will indicate the price and a sticker will be placed on the front of the pay station to say the new rates are in effect for that machine.
If you are part of the technically savy and you use the PaybyPhone app you will be charged the old rate until all the machines have been changed over to the new rate.
Winnipeg Parking Authority will update it’s website daily with a map to indicate which machines have been converted to the new rates.
New rates aren’t the only changes to parking April 1st. If you happen to get a ticket while parked on a city street the early payment discount is also changing from 50% of the fine to 25%.
