Smoky conditions prompt warning from Environment Canada

That hazy sky over most of southern Manitoba is expected to last into Tuesday night or early Wednesday.

Smoke from prairie forest fires is being pushed across the province prompting Environment Canada to issue a Special Air Quality Statement

It is expected that winds from the west will push the smoke in front of a cold front that will come through the region later today

People who suffer breathing difficulties are being warned to stay indoors and find a cool ventilated space to stay in.

[jaw_quote author=”Environment Canada” ]Due to the smoky conditions, individuals living in or travelling to the above noted areas are advised to be aware of potential health concerns that can be associated with current air conditions. In these current conditions, even healthy individuals may experience sore eyes, tears, coughing and a runny nose.[/jaw_quote][jaw_clear]

Environment Canada warns that those who are at a higher health risk are young children, the elderly, pregnant women and those who have heart or lung conditions, especially asthma, should avoid as much exposure to smoke as possible.

Manitobans with health questions or concerns should contact their health-care provider or call Health Links at 204-788-8200.
