Random confrontation leads to shooting of teen, four arrested and charged

Winnipeg Police have detained four people allegedly involved in a serious shooting on Saturday, August 4, 2018, that left an 18-year-old male in critical condition.

Police say the victim was riding his bicycle with two relatives just before 7:30 pm around Roy Avenue and Cecil Street when they were cut off by an SUV that drove in front of them to block their path.

One of the people in the SUV pulled out a sawed-off shotgun and the victims tried to get away. The 18-year-old male tripped and fell as he fled and was shot.

Police describe the injuries he sustained as “life-altering”.

According to investigators, the two groups of people did not know each other.

Members of the Street Crime Unit spotted the vehicle shortly after the shooting around Logan Street and Arlington Avenue. As the SUV tried to get away it crashed in the 500 block of Elgin Avenue.

Officers arrested three adult males and an adult female in the vehicle. They also recovered the weapon used in the shooting.

Bronson KEQUAHTOOWAY, 24, Joey MORRISSETTE, 23, Savannah LINKLATER, 18 and Mitchell MANN, 23 have been charged with a number of weapons, robbery, assault and breaching court order offences for their alleged involvement.

Police say that all four accused have been detained in custody.
