Sitting on a patio at your favorite restaurant or pub has just become healthier.
As of today, April 1, 2018, the City of Winnipeg by-law that controls outdoor smoking has been amended to include patios at all restaurants and bars where there is a defined space and an occupancy permit is required.
The ban encompasses all smoking devices and products including cigarettes, cigars, pipes, e-cigarettes, water pipes, hookahs and similar sedives that allow people to inhale tabacco, cannabis or other substances that generate second hand smoke. The is an exemption made for ceremonies led by indigenous persons.
Fines for ignoring the ban are up to $200 for the person committing the offence and $400 for the business owner allowing it.
