RCMP have shot and captured the man who had them involved in a major manhunt in Portage la Prairie on Tuesday June 27, 2017. Just after 6:00 pm officers located the man who had eluded them for most of the afternoon. He was located walking near Highway 1 just east of the city after RCMP received a call about a suspicious man. Winnipeg Police have arrested a man who began a robbery spree in the city in mid February of 2016. Between February 15 2016 and June 26 of 2017 the suspect allegedly robbed two commercial businesses and five financial institutions. The man wore a disguise in all the robberies and used a firearm in at least three of them according to police. He also threatened staff during the thefts. Brandon Police are reporting that on Monday June 26, 2017 they were contacted from several financial institutions in the city telling them that a number of accounts had been accessed online and money taken out. The amounts of the thefts ranged from $200 to $2000 per transaction.  Police say that investigators believe the accounts were accessed from an unknown source in Florida. The Province of Manitoba just made it easier for those recovering from opioid use to access suboxone. “We know opioids like fentanyl are affecting our communities and families, which is why we are enhancing access to suboxone,” saidHealth, Seniors and Active Living Minister Kelvin Goertzen.   Suboxone is an opioid replacement. It is used to decrease cravings and reduce withdrawal symptoms. Up until now the criteria for coverage of the drug through the Pharmacare program was restrictive. A shooting Sunday June 25, 2017 in the 500 block of Sherbrook Street has police blocking the lane between Maryland and Sherbrook while they investigate the incident.
