Man gets carjacked after setting up date online

 

 

Victim was pepper sprayed and pulled from vehicle

 

 

 

 

 

Winnipeg Police responded to a carjacking in the area of Salter Street and Mountain Avenue just after 2:30 pm on Monday, August 21, 2017.

According to police, a 24-year-old man had gone to the area after he made arrangements to meet a female in the 300 block of Boyd Avenue. When the man arrived the female approached his vehicle. Three youth also approached the vehicle then sprayed the victim with pepper spray. The man was pulled from his vehicle and threatened. The female and the youths stole the vehicle and took off.

The victim was not injured in the assault.

The stolen vehicle was later seen in the downtown area and was pulled over by police. As officers approached the vehicle sped away. Officers pursued and the vehicle was stopped at Broadway and Edmonton Avenue. The people in the vehicle took off but were captured by police after a short foot chase.

Investigators learned that the suspects planned the robbery by creating a fake profile specifically to lure a person to them.

Two 15-year-old and two 16-year-old youths have been arrested and charge d with robbery, unauthorized possession of a restricted weapon and a number of other offences for their alleged involvement.
