Thief smashes display cases makes off with $28,000 in jewellery.

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 33-year-old Winnipeg man after he threatened a store employee with a knife, demanded a safe be opened then smashed two display cases and stole more than $28,000 worth of jewellery.

It happened on Saturday, March 31, 2018, just after 10:00 am in the 300 block of Portage Avenue. As the suspect took off and tried to flee he was pursued by security officers from the business.

When police arrived the suspect was in the custody of the security officers at Portage Avenue and Kennedy Street. The suspect was injured during the robbery and was taken to hospital by police to have two cuts treated.

Brandon Cory Richards, 33 has been charged for his alleged involvement with Robbery, Possess Weapon, Utter Threats and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

He was detained in custody.
