Fake Cop conducts traffic stop then lectures driver

Winnipeg Police have arrested a 38-year-old male for impersonating a peace officer and conducting a traffic stop.

It happened on June 24, 2018, a 51-year-old female was driving in the area of Eric Street and Beliveau Boulevard when the accused activated an emergency light on the dashboard of his vehicle, a white Crown Victoria.

The man approached the woman, showed her a small badge and indicated he was a law enforcement officer.

According to police the suspect then lectured the woman on her driving before leaving.

The female made note of the vehicle information and contacted police to verify the man’s identity.

Investigators learned that the vehicle was unregistered but they were able to identify the driver.

On Tuesday, July 3, 2018, the male was arrested and is now facing charges for Personating a Peace Officer and various highway traffic act offences. He has been released on a Promise to Appear.

Police say they believe that this may not have been the first time the man did this and are asking anyone who may have experienced something similar to contact them.
