Brandon Police have arrested a 52-year-old woman for fraud after an email account for a pension company was hacked.
The investigation began when the victim contacted Toronto Police in June 2018, about a fraud that had occurred. According to police the hacker posed as the Chair of a pension company and sent an email to the secretary of the company asking for a payment to be made to a vendor in the amount of $2,500. Since the request came from a legitimate email the secretary e-transferred the money.
The money transfer was tracked by police to the suspect’s bank account. On September 11, 2018, Toronto Police contacted Brandon investigators about the case.
On Wednesday, September 19, 2018 officers in the Wheat City found and charged the suspect.
She was processed and released on a promise to appear in court on November 15, 2018.
