HOMICIDE | POLICE LOOKING FOR HELP IN FINDING SUSPECT IN WEENUSK HOMICIDE

 

 

As News4 previously reported – On July 5, 2016, emergency personnel responded to the area of Portage Avenue and Donald Street regarding an injured male.

 

 

HOMICIDE | DOWNTOWN ROADS CLOSED AS POLICE INVESTIGATE
   
The victim was transported to hospital, but died of his injuries.
   
Police identified the victim as 26 year old Cyril Quentin Weenusk from Oxford House

Investigators believe that the Weenusk had an altercation with a group of people in the area of Portage Avenue and Donald Street. The altercation turned violent and proved fatal.

UPDATE | HOMICIDE ON PORTAGE @ DONALD

On July 15, 2016, police arrested Geordie Douglas Wood, 22 years old , from St. Theresa Point. He has been charged with Second Degree Murder for his alleged involvement. Wood was remanded back into custody.

ARRESTED | MAN CHARGED WITH 2ND DEGREE MURDER IN PORTAGE AVE BEATING
              
Police are looking for an additional suspect in connection this incident and have obtained a Court Order authorizing the release of images of a suspect, possibly a youth, sought in connection with the homicide. Investigators are requesting the public’s assistance in identifying this male. The suspect is seen wearing a black and white coloured camo-style jacket.

The link to the above Winnipeg Police Service video will expire July 31, 2016 @ 11:59pm as per the court order allowing its release.

The Homicide Unit continues to investigate.  Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact detectives at 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
