Shortly after 10:00 am on Saturday June 17, 2017 police in Brandon received a call from a resident who was following a vehicle on the North Hill after he saw the passenger with a large bag of marihuana. Police patrolled the area stopped the suspect vehicle.  A 20 year old man is facing possession and trafficking charges after police seized a small amount of marihuana and a quantity of cash. The suspect was released on a promise to appear and will appear in court in August of this year.  …

Just after midnight Sunday June 18, 2017 Brandon Police got a about a vehicle hitting a “fixed object” in the 3300 block of Victoria Avenue. Police learned that the vehicle in question had been in a parking lot in the area, turned onto Victoria Avenue then made a U-turn at Victoria and Clark Drive travelling west. TWO DEAD AFTER SUV SLAMS INTO TREE

Early Sunday June 18, 2017 a single vehicle collision claimed the life of two people in Portage la Prairie. It happened just before 2:30 am. The SUV was travelling west on Crescent Avenue at what police describe as a “high rate of speed” when it crossed the centre line and struck a tree. The 22 year old female driver and 20 year old female passenger died at the scene. 2 SENT TO HOSPITAL AFTER AN EARLY MORNING FIRE ON CORYDON

Just after 4:30am residents of an apartment building in  the 900 block of Corydon Avenue were jarred awake to the sounds of a fire alarm. Fire has broken out on the third floor of the structure sending plumes of heavy smoke into the neighbourhood. Two people were taken to hospital but the extent of their injuries are not known.  Police shut down Corydon  between Stafford and Wentworth for a couple of hours as fire crews battled the early morning blaze.
